Meeting You at Your Bus Stop: Supporting Every Neurodiversity Journey

Life is often described as a journey, with each of us taking our own route. For people navigating neurodiversity, that journey can feel especially complex, shaped by personal experiences, changing understanding, and moments of discovery.

At Inclusive Change, we recognise that everyone is at a different point along that road. That is why we focus on meeting people where they are, at their bus stop, not where we think they should be.

The First Stop: Beginning to Understand Neurodiversity

For some, neurodiversity is not yet part of their world. It may be a word they have heard in passing, without context or relevance to their own life or work. This bus stop is often about curiosity and early awareness.

At Inclusive Change, we help people make sense of what neurodiversity means and why it matters. We create space for questions, conversations, and learning, offering clear and practical strategies to support neurodivergent experiences at work, in education, and in everyday life.

Early Diagnosis: Finding Your Way

For those at the beginning of the diagnosis process, the journey can feel long and uncertain. This might include parents seeking answers for their child, young people receiving a diagnosis, or adults beginning to finally understand themselves.

This stage often brings mixed emotions, relief, worry, confusion, and hope. At Inclusive Change, we provide guidance that is grounded in lived experience. We offer reassurance, practical resources, and supportive conversations to help people feel less alone as they work out their next steps.

Supporting a Colleague or Loved One: Building Empathy

Some people arrive at this bus stop because someone they care about is neurodivergent. A colleague, family member, or friend may have shared a diagnosis, and they want to offer support but are unsure where to begin.

This part of the journey is about understanding and empathy. Inclusive Change supports individuals and organisations to develop awareness, use respectful language, make reasonable adjustments and provides mentoring. We also help people and organisations recognise and value neurodivergent strengths, not just challenges.

Late Diagnosis: Making Sense of the Past

For adults diagnosed later in life, this bus stop can feel reflective. Many look back and finally understand why certain situations were difficult, or why they experienced the world differently.

This stage often includes both relief and grief. At Inclusive Change, we offer validation and encouragement, helping people explore their neurodivergent identity with confidence. We also support individuals with coaching and guidance around Access to Work and workplace adjustments.

Parents Navigating the School System: At a Crossroads

Parents of neurodivergent children often find themselves at a crossroads. Navigating education systems, advocating for support, and pushing for understanding can be exhausting.

Inclusive Change works alongside parents, sharing insights from lived experience and connecting families with trusted resources and partners. Our aim is to help families feel understood, supported, and able to thrive in education and beyond.

Preparing for Work: Supporting Young People and Employers

Alongside individual journeys, Inclusive Change works with organisations and employers to improve understanding of neurodiversity in the workplace. By supporting employers to build inclusive environments and cultures by raising awareness and understanding. We mentor and support employees to succeed at work and empower managers.

No matter which bus stop you are at, it is okay to ask for help. You do not need all the answers straight away.
