Speaker, Facilitator, Compare
Some people call me the "pocket rocket". I think that is because I have passion and energy to bring out the best in an audience.
I have been working with audiences for almost 25 years in many guises - Lecturer, radio presenter, drama teacher, children's entertainer (I have been a professional fairy) facilitator, compare and speaker.
As a speaker I believe there has to be some substance behind us and I sure have that too. Not being able to settle and always saying "YES" to opportunities has led to a whole lot of experience that informs my work and my presentations.
I start those conversations with stories some that will surprise and some that will inspire. I talk about some difficult stuff and combine my unique expertise and knowledge.
Relatable, authentic and thought provoking
I engage audiences to get them thinking and start conversations that will make and does make a lasting difference.
I have spent a decade working with senior leaders in transformational change where I have learned that change is often an individual journey and we will all join that journey from a different bus-stop.
I combine theory with reality and always have an eye on the future.
Oh, okay, let's just say I can talk about resilience, royalty, and some really fun stuff from a career in international law enforcement,
I talk the talk and walk the walk when it comes to social enterprise, from grass roots to engagement at the highest levels right up to Downing Street.
Today, Inclusive Change was proud to deliver a dynamic and engaging Neurodiversity Awareness Training session at Bristol Airport, on behalf of their Inclusivity Network Spearheaded by Lucy and Carly from Inclusive Change, the session invited airport colleagues to “Start the Conversation” around neurodiversity in a way that was open and empowering.
From the outset, the training set the tone: this was a safe space to learn, question, and share. Attendees were encouraged to explore neurodivergent experiences, focusing primarily on ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, and Dyspraxia, while also touching on the power of inclusive environments and the legal framework that underpins them.
One of the highlights of the session was debunking long-held myths. Gone are the days of ADHD being dismissed as a “naughty child” syndrome brought on by too many e-numbers. We now understand that ADHD, and all forms of neurodivergence, come with both challenges and strengths. In fact, many neurodivergent individuals bring heightened creativity, empathy, problem-solving skills, and a deep commitment to accessibility.
We had real conversations about the barriers neurodivergent people face, including stigma in the workplace and long waiting times for diagnoses. Yet, there was also real hope. With many Gen Z identifying neurodivergent traits, the need for understanding and action has never been clearer.
Perhaps the most memorable takeaway from the day? The term "neurospicy" a light-hearted and affirming way to describe neurodivergence that really resonated with attendees. It perfectly captures the vibrant, varied, and valuable ways people experience and interact with the world.
We left the room buzzing with conversation, reflection, and energy. Everyone was encouraged to identify one change they could take back into their work, whether it was challenging a bias, making a reasonable adjustment, or simply shifting the way they communicate.
This was the beginning of many conversations.
Thank you to Bristol Airport and the Inclusivity Network for opening the doors to this essential dialogue, and to everyone who took the time to attend. Together, we're building a more inclusive future, one spicy brain at a time.
