I joined a training opportunity through Women's Work Lab, which led me to a four-week volunteer program with Inclusive Change. The training took place three days a week and introduced me to a professional UK work environment. What began as a new and slightly intimidating experience quickly became one of the most meaningful learning journeys I have had.
During the program, I worked as a volunteer supporting website and digital content tasks. My responsibilities including website and content migration, website re-structuring, UX/UI testing and optimization, designing pages using elements, creating and editing blogs, publishing blocks, checking links to ensure they worked correctly, and helping maintain the quality of the website. I also learned about SEO and AI optimisation, which showed me how content can be made easier to find and more useful for readers.
One of the areas I enjoyed most was designing. Creating layouts, adjusting elements, and seeing a page come together was both exciting and satisfying. At the same time, checking all the links without breaking anything required patience, accuracy, and attention to detail. This task was challenging but also very rewarding because I understood how important it is for users to navigate a website smoothly.
Throughout the training, I used the Tekmatix platform, which was completely new to me. Learning how it works helped me develop valuable technical skills in website management. Beyond the technical side, I also grew personally. I became more organised, more creative, and significantly more confident. When I started, I had low confidence, but gaining hands-on practical experience helped me believe in my abilities.
This experience also gave me insight into the UK workplace. Understanding how teams collaborate, communicate, and support each other is something that will help me in future job interviews and professional roles. It showed me that real learning happens not only through theory but through practical involvement in meaningful work.
Inclusive Change, for me, turned out to be much deeper than I initially expected. It was not only about inclusion as a concept, but about building knowledge, skills, and opportunities for people. I discovered that work related to administration, digital systems, and design plays an important role in making information accessible to everyone.
I am especially grateful for the supportive environment created by the team. Working with Carly and my trainer Emily made the experience even more positive. They were kind, patient, and always willing to help, which made learning feel safe and enjoyable. Their guidance helped me grow both professionally and personally.
Learning a completely new skill in designing has been one of the highlights of this journey. It made me feel proud, motivated, and excited about future opportunities. This training has given me something valuable that I can carry forward — not just technical knowledge, but confidence and real work experience.
To anyone considering a similar opportunity, I would say that Inclusive Change offers much more than what you might initially see. If you are interested in digital work, administration, or design, you can gain a great deal of knowledge and practical experience. Most importantly, you will be part of a supportive team that genuinely wants you to succeed.
Overall, this has been a happy, meaningful, and empowering experience for me. It has shown me that stepping into something new can open doors to growth, confidence, and future possibilities.
